APEC 2011 Traffic Jam

APEC 2011 Traffic Jam Alert

The APEC 2011 Hawaii summit will bring a lot of good things for us here in Hawaii in the future but presently it is causing a lot of traffic for local people as well as visitors.

If you’re coming to our spa during the APEC summit by car, we suggest that you use Ala Wai Boulevard and avoid Ala Moana Boulevard, Kalakaua Avenue and McCully Street. Ala Wai Boulevard runs east (Diamond Head) to west (Ewa). Ala Wai Boulevard may be easily accessed from Kapahulu Avenue. Come down Ala Wai until you reach Niu Street which is just one block (street) west of McCully Street, turn left and the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel will be right there on the right. Hassle and traffic free!

If all possible, try to avoid Kalakaua Avenue and McCully Street as these are the streets which bottlenecks going into Waikiki and because of that, is causing traffic jams. Kapiolani Boulevard may also cause traffic jams due to the Convention Center being right on the corner of Kapiolani and Kalakaua.

Upon leaving, we suggest you stay in the left lane on Niu Street, turn left on Kalakaua, then turn left on the next street which is Pau Street. This will bring you back onto Ala Wai Boulevard. You can then turn right on McCully Street which goes over the Ala Wai Bridge. There will be some traffic getting onto Kalakaua Avenue as the traffic bottlenecks there.
